Synopsis

Set in a rural village in Bengal, eight-year-old friends Gopal and Bablu find wonder in bicycle wheels, small treasures, and dreams of Kolkata. Their fragile world fractures when Gopal is falsely accused of stealing a discarded packet of chips. Public shame follows him into the one place meant to protect him—home. Unable to bear the weight of collective judgment, Gopal leaves behind a final note: “Mother, I did not steal.” As Bablu struggles with a grief he cannot understand, his family prepares to leave for Kolkata. Before departing, he returns to their shared places and quietly throws Gopal’s bicycle bell into the water. Duti Chaka explores childhood, dignity, and the lasting impact of adult judgment on a child’s inner world.
