Synopsis

After news of a deadly school shooting, Leela, a grandmother in her sixties, arrives at her grandson Baala’s elementary school consumed by fear. Walking the empty halls, she imagines the violence children might face, revealing how deeply the threat has altered her sense of safety. When she finds Baala happily building a LEGO castle, she hides her anxiety. But a sudden noise sends him into a classroom cabinet, following the safety drills meant to protect him. Finding him, Leela realizes children carry the burden of preparing for violence. As they leave, Baala remains carefree, eager for ice cream. Watching him skip toward the parking lot, Leela sees children’s hopeful drawings and allows herself to believe childhood can still be safe.
