Selftape – A Personal Journey Through the Lens

Selftape – A Personal Journey Through the Lens directed by Sergio Álvarez.
Selftape is a deeply personal short film born from the intersection of performance, vulnerability and the digital age. Written, directed, edited and performed by myself, this project reflects not only my artistic vision but also a stage of personal and professional transition.
The film explores the inner world of an actor preparing a self-tape audition — a format that has become increasingly common in recent years. But instead of presenting just a professional routine, Selftape delves into the emotional layers of the performer: the fears, expectations, fantasies and wounds that coexist behind the camera. It is both a satire and a confession.
The crew was minimal, a conscious decision to maintain intimacy and freedom during the creative process. I worked closely with musician Florencia Aragón, whose original score adds depth and emotional resonance to the film. Every frame, every edit, was carefully crafted to preserve authenticity while pushing narrative boundaries.
Creating Selftape was not only a cinematic endeavor but a therapeutic one. It allowed me to explore themes like identity, rejection, artistic ambition and the fine line between performance and real life.
