Sometimes the means to make a movie can be very minimal, to convey a message and simply have fun!

In the animated film “PlanktonTV”, the Mottili Theater creates a fantastic world of microscopic plankton creatures using live-action hand puppets. There are stop-motion sequences that explain actual facts about these tiny sea creatures. For example, that plankton are all small creatures that float in the ocean. These can be animals, plants, fungi, bacteria and archebacteria.

Inspired by these more than 250,000 different microorganisms, about which so little has been researched, the fantastic story about five quirky microplankton friends who are determined to cross the ocean to hack their music TV show into the ocean stream “DeepWaterChannel”, that really exists.

Challenges -With a core group of eight people, Mottili Theater came up with a fantastic story about plankton. The crew organized themselves horizontally and made decisions together. It was a great challenge to structure themselves in a non-hierarchical way, which was ultimately a very enriching experience for everyone.

Experience - It is important to the entire crew to draw attention to the problems of the ocean. Even the smallest organisms are important in our ecosystem. Half of the oxygen we breathe is produced by the photosynthesis of phytoplankton.

And even if we don't yet know enough about plankton, we should value these life forms and take a greater interest in them. This production shows that it can also go hand in hand with a good dose of humor!
