Anokhi is a quiet Indian immigrant mother. After her daughter, Anahita, leaves for a sleepover, Anokhi removes her makeup, unveiling bruises from ongoing abuse. When Anokhi’s drunk husband comes home, he is enraged when he learns of Anahita’s sleepover and grabs at Anokhi, who recoils in fear. Before he can do further damage, he passes out. Anokhi thinks about reaching out for help but holds back. The next morning, Anahita returns unusually quiet. After some prodding, Anahita reveals that she was hit by an older girl. When Anokhi asks why Anahita didn’t say anything earlier, her daughter simply responds - “When Dadda hits you, you never tell!”. Anokhi realizes the full impact of her silence and reaches out for help!
