The Last Promise – My Filmmaking Journey

The Last Promise is a student short film that I directed as part of my M.Sc. in Filmmaking at MIT School of Film & Television, where I specialized in Visual Effects. The film explores the emotional bond between a father and daughter and reflects on love, loss, sacrifice, memories, and the relationships that stay with us even after someone is gone.

The emotional foundation of the film came from a personal experience of sudden loss in my own life. Although the story is fictional and is not based on that incident, I drew from the emotions I experienced—the shock, the memories that remain, the things left unsaid, and the difficulty of accepting the loss of someone close.

Throughout this journey, my mentor continuously guided and supported me. I am equally grateful to my entire cast and crew. Many of them were busy with their own projects, yet they still gave their time, effort, and commitment to The Last Promise. Their teamwork played an important role in bringing the film to life.

The film features Jijoy Pulikal Rajagopalan as the father and Sneha Chettri as the daughter. Their performances were very important to the emotional core of the film. Their natural and sincere portrayal helped make the father-daughter relationship feel believable and emotionally grounded.

Along with directing the film, I also worked on its editing and visual effects, which allowed me to remain closely involved throughout the filmmaking process.
