Hum Nayi Subah Ki Kirne Hain, Yeh Naya Zamaana Hamaara Hai – DJIME
What happens when youth is given an opportunity, free from the barriers of circumstance?
This documentary explores how access to skills, opportunity and nurturing can transform lives and strengthen society.
Everything at DJIME is free—technical education, accommodation, meals, industry-oriented training and learning resources. Students even receive a stipend while learning. Beyond technical skills, language training, computer literacy and personal development nurture confidence, independence and the potential to become future leaders and change-makers.
The documentary celebrates women challenging traditional boundaries in manufacturing. DJIME's first graduating batch in 2017 comprised entirely women, demonstrating that ambition and ability know no gender.
Behind these opportunities is the vision of Kanwal Jeet Jawa, who says in the film:
“And if we can create opportunity, transform lives and help individuals realise their full potential, that is the legacy we want to leave behind.”
During our recce, what moved me most was not the infrastructure—it was the students. Hearing their transformation stories in their own voices was heartening. Their natural confidence before the camera surprised our crew and reaffirmed my belief that talent needs opportunity and nurturing to flourish.
I believe cinema has a responsibility beyond entertainment—to give a voice to the unheard, highlight social injustices and disparities, inspire meaningful social change, and equally celebrate the good happening in the world.
For me, the creative challenge was to portray an extraordinary initiative without losing sight of the real heroes of this story—the young people whose lives it was transforming. We focused on showing the intent, not the institution.
Beyond classrooms, this is a story of skills becoming employability, employability becoming independence and independence becoming dignity. Its impact reaches beyond individuals to their families, communities and society, while contributing to a stronger, more self-reliant India.
