LO QUE SOLTAMOS: Learning to Let Go Without Losing Love
LO QUE SOLTAMOS (What We Let Go) is a Spanish fiction short film about love, change and the courage to say goodbye with tenderness. Written and directed by Bruno Arredondo, this ten-minute story follows Lucía and Mara during the final afternoon they spend together before separating for good.
In an almost-empty apartment, boxes, familiar objects and a small, struggling plant hold traces of the life the two women have shared. As they move through the rituals of leaving, their silences and smallest gestures reveal what words cannot easily express. The plant becomes a quiet symbol of what can still be cared for, even when a relationship can no longer continue.
Rather than portraying a breakup through anger or confrontation, the film approaches separation with sensitivity and emotional honesty. It explores the idea of “learning to unlove in order to love better”: accepting that love does not always mean staying, and that affection can change without disappearing.
The visual language is naturalistic and intimate. Warm late-afternoon light, close framing, restrained camera movement and organic, neutral tones create the feeling of witnessing a private moment. Everyday actions—folding clothes, moving boxes or touching a plant—carry emotional weight, while breathing and silence become part of the storytelling.
For Bruno Arredondo, whose artistic path began in theatre and acting, this first short film brings his interest in contained performances, human connection and transformative moments in ordinary life to the screen. Irene Vera plays Lucía and Paula Churchs plays Mara. The cinematography is by Ícaro Studio and Alejandro Gallego, with editing and post-production by Gustavo Sánchez Silva. The film is produced by Dual View Films.
