CAMINAR ENTRE LATENCIAS directed by Raúl Morales Osorio

Caminar entre latencias (Walking Between Latencies, Raúl Morales Osorio, 2025) is the title of the work. The idea comes from my research project about the recovery of the gaze in the territories of audiovisual and cultural resistance, and also from my connection with the audiovisual A/r/tography .

The film was born from my love for cinema, from the idea that cinema and life are the same thing. Also, from the need to recover the first gaze as a reflection of the contemporary image, as a dialogue between the images of the present and the images that represent changes and ruptures in the history of cinema and communities. These ruptures manifest themselves in the form of audiovisual latencies, which give the work its name.

The film is closely linked to the journey, to the experience, to the encounter with the unknown, which is what opens up new challenges in filming. The film was completely self-financed and I managed to complete it during the months of January and February of this year. The filming took place in Granada (Spain), Frankfurt (Germany) and Alessandria del Carretto, in the region of Calabria (Italy). There is a cinematic and vital connection between these three filming locations, something that happened very organically.

Go back to the first gaze means returning to a state of consciousness and emotion that can give back to cinema its lost aura and also helps to recover a visual identity. Trying to look as if it were the first time gives back to the image its authenticity, freshness and truthfulness in the face of a current context of false images. A commitment to the real that makes historically forgotten marginal scenarios and contexts visible.
