Maisaheb Dr. Savita Bhimrao Ambedkar directed by Prakash Tribhuvan
Dr. Savita Bhimrao Ambedkar is a sensitive and thought-provoking film
Dr. Savita Bhimrao Ambedkar is a sensitive and thought-provoking film that brings to light the neglected life and struggle of Maisaheb, the second wife of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.
During the crucial period of drafting the Constitution, the Hindu Code Bill, and the conversion movement, Babasaheb’s health was failing. After the death of Ramabai, he required constant care, which he received from Dr. Sharda Kabir, later known as Dr. Savita Ambedkar.
Maisaheb devoted nine years of her life to caring for Babasaheb, ensuring his health and well-being so he could continue his historic work. After his Mahaparinirvan, she faced severe humiliation and false accusations of poisoning him. The film explores this controversy and presents a humane perspective on the truth. Imprisoned and isolated, Maisaheb later re- emerged with the support of Dalit Panther activists and actively participated in social, Buddhist, and legal movements until her Nirvana.
Produced, written, and directed by Prakash Tribhuvan, the film features strong performances—Shailesh Datar as Babasaheb, Pallavi Palkar as Maisaheb, and Shantanu Moghe as Ramdas Athawale. Authentic costumes, music, and art direction enrich the narrative. Notably, the film was awarded Best Indian film at the Cannes world Film Festival 2025 and screened at the Wave Bazar Goa Film Festival of India and Mrs. Chhaya Tribhuvan (Honey Costume) awarded best costume in Ambernath Film Festival 2025. It is a must-watch to understand the unseen sacrifices of Maisaheb hidden in history.
