What did Liu Jiamu say about his film?

“( )” originates from an experience of a hidden wound left on individuals after society intrudes into personal life. In the film, a strange illness that separates people from their environment and from each other spreads, in a depressed social atmosphere, from the unemployed protagonist to everyone without distinction, even to the viewers of the film.

During the creation of this film, the cinematographer, the three leading actors and I, who have collaborated many times, decided to look for many possibilities of improvisation outside standard professional practices. This is also the main reason why the film carries a special stylized quality beyond conventional audiovisual expression.

In addition, our crew members are students from the Beijing Film Academy and other nearby art schools. We are honored that the film is produced by the Singaporean company Nanyang Film Pasar PTE. LTD., and honored to invite sound designer Yang Yang and leading actress Li Xinglin to join us.
