A LITTLE HUMAN SPARK directed by Bill Dwyer
"A Little Human Spark (wonsonrockproductions.com) is a short film that is loosely based on something that happened to Bill Dwyer (Director/Actor/Producer) in the music business several years ago. Bill is also a musician and a "record label executive" tried to get him to email "unfinished songs" over to him so his "team" could take a listen to them and see if they would want to sign Bill to their roster of recording artists after he saw some of Bill's original music videos online. Bill had heard horror stories of scams where songs were stolen in this fashion as the unfinished works would not have copyright protection on them yet. Bill never followed up or emailed his songs to the "label executive" and then received an aggressive phone call a few weeks later from the individual who stated bluntly "when can we expect those".
Bill told him he felt it was a scam and would not be sending anything and hung up. Bill then realized that all of the communication & requests for songs had been done through direct phone conversations, after the initial email contact & introduction from the label, instead of through emails so that there would be no actual record or "paper trail" that Bill could use for evidence to confront the "label" with or use to "out" the "label executive" and put him on blast on social media so other artists would know about him and avoid being scammed out of their original songs and art. Bill hadn't acted in years and got the itch to again and began writing the script. He cast himself as the villain (Richard Armstrong) based on the "label executive" who tried to scam him. Pat Haggan (East Coast Content) was brought on for shooting the film and Bill cast the film with lots of his local friends in Gloucester, MA. Jemma Tory (Avery Armstrong) and Kelly Mastin (Katrina Buckingham) give stand out performances. Pat and Bill edited the film together and Clinton Degan created the film score. The film has won an indieFEST.com Award of Recognition (2025), a Silver Award from Florence Film Awards (2025) and an Award of Merit from Canada Shorts Film Festival (2025). It has been officially selected to film festivals in New York City, Massachusetts and California and now we are honored to be an official selection at the 14th Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival!!!
