Anchor Points directed by RUBBERBAND
Anchor Points is a dance documentary that explores the origins of the RUBBERBAND Method, as well as themes of connection and belonging in a world shaped by constant movement and uncertainty. Through a powerful combination of choreography, cinematography, and visual effects, the film introduces the core principles of the movement vocabulary developed by Victor Quijada over the past twenty years, while tracing his artistic journey and personal story.
Produced by the internationally acclaimed Canadian contemporary dance company RUBBERBAND, Anchor Points brings together artists from diverse backgrounds who share a commitment to pushing the boundaries between stage performance and cinematic storytelling. The film transforms movement into a visual language that captures both vulnerability and resilience, inviting audiences into Quijada’s creative world.
The filmmaking process was rooted in collaboration. Choreographic ideas evolved alongside the camera work, allowing movement and image to influence one another throughout production. Rather than simply documenting dance, the creative team sought to create a work that could only exist on screen, where framing, editing, and visual effects become active partners in the storytelling.
At its core, Anchor Points reflects on how dance came to define Quijada’s life, ultimately becoming his own anchor point—a source of identity, purpose, and connection.
By merging contemporary dance with cinematic expression, Anchor Points continues RUBBERBAND’s ongoing exploration of innovative forms of performance and storytelling on film. The documentary celebrates the power of movement to communicate experiences that transcend language and cultural boundaries, creating a work that is both intimate and universally resonant.
